Your first drawing
- Find something you are familiar with

- Just draw it.
Save the drawing, and put it in a place where you can visit again in a few weeks or months or even years
A visual breakdown of light and shadow
- Light Source: the direction and location that the dominant light is coming from
- Highlight: The whitest or lightest point where light directly hits the surface of your subject
- Midtones: The range of moderate shading as the subject curves away from the light source
- Reflective Light: A subtle amount of light that bounces off a surface to create a slightly brighter area underneath the core shadow area
- Cast shadow: The shadow that falls on the surface underneath your subject. It will be darkest closest to the subject and begin to get lighter as it falls away
- Core shadow: The darkest part of the subject, where it is farthest away or completely hidden from light
